A Photogs “Soft” Side

We like to think of him as Uncle Dan.  Everyone at our station loves Dan West.  He’s one of our hardest working photographers at NBC17 and creates truly excellent stories.  His eye for video storytelling is as accurate as you can get.

Wednesday, I saw a side of Dan I had never seen before.  I always knew he was soft spoken and just one of the kindest, down to earth people you’ll ever meet.  But, when he and reporter Steve Sbraccia shot a story in my neighborhood the other day…I saw a very loving, “soft” side of Dan.

While waiting inbetween interviews they spent time at my house.  After a brief introduction of my children…Dan was quick to ask my 5-year-old daughter about the doll house she got for Christmas.  Before I could blink Dan was on the living room floor dressing Barbie dolls with my daughter!  It was the sweetest thing.

It doesn’t end there…next they sat on the coach and Dan was reading Princess stories to her.  She had made a friend for life.

Unfortunately, they were not able to finish their story…the interview had arrived so it was back to work.  However, Dan promised one day he’ll finish reading the story to her.  She looks forward to that.  It was such an adorable moment.

We are so fortunate have people like Dan working at NBC17…it’s people like him that help breath life into the realness of our news stories.  Thanks Uncle Dan.
