Xanadu Hits The Stage

OK, I admit it….I’m an 80’s girl!  Yes, I wore leg warmers, leggins, big florescent earrings, slouch socks, slinky belts, lace headbands and even gloves with no fingers!  Oh my…those were the days.  Oh, and of course, knock off Ray Ban sunglasses.  Come on!  Admit it…you enjoyed those days too.
Well, now your can relive the [...]

Attention Dancing Queen!

Dancing Queen?  Hey, isn’t that an ABBA song?  YES!  Mamma Mia is playing right now at DPAC.  I had the privilege of meeting two of the cast members “Donna” (the mother) and “Sophie” (the daughter).
If you love to dance and sing to ABBA hits now is your chance.  So, skip the gym for a day [...]

Rock It Learning Tour

We had a wonderful tour group yesterday!  Two guys from Rock It Learning Science Camp in Raleigh were kind enough to stop by and pay us a visit.  Usually, when a tour group is from a science camp they’re fascinated with Bill and the science and math involved.
Trust me….these guys were in “awe” of Bill [...]

Fabulous Friday!

What’s on my mind today?  Friday!  What’s better than that?  The weekend!  Do you ever have those weeks where Friday just can’t get here soon enough?  Well, I had one of those weeks.
As I look out our NBC 17 weather window, it’s gloomy, dreary and just down right blah outside.  But honestly, I’ll take blah [...]

Sharon’s Weather Forecast

If I could control the outside temperature the weather forecast wouldn’t be so interesting.  I’d have it beautiful and sunny everyday!  However, this morning Bill Reh was gracious and added my desired temperature for tomorrow.  All morning he kept saying we could reach a high of 59 degrees tomorrow.  Sounds great, right?  But, I thought another [...]

Devastation Strikes Haiti

Yesterdays 7.0 magnitude tremor left behind devastation, mass destruction and death.  Destroyed communications makes it impossible to estimate the death toll, but peace keepers know it’s astronomically high.
As news reporters show and tell stories of bodies lying in the streets…people covered in debris holding hands …. others screaming for help from toppled buildings…I can’t even [...]

A Photogs “Soft” Side

We like to think of him as Uncle Dan.  Everyone at our station loves Dan West.  He’s one of our hardest working photographers at NBC17 and creates truly excellent stories.  His eye for video storytelling is as accurate as you can get.
Wednesday, I saw a side of Dan I had never seen before.  I always knew he was soft spoken [...]

Frozen Pond Dangers

In my last blog post I mentioned how some neighborhood kids were playing by a nearby semi-frozen pond and one broke through the ice.  Well, that incident turned into a news story last night.
Our reporter Steve Sbraccia and photographer Dan West spent time in my neighborhood yesterday interviewing the kids involved and concerned parents.
Every parent should watch this [...]

Don’t Walk On Icy Bodies of Water

Don’t let this be you.
It’s fascinating to see ice forming on bodies of water, especially for those of us who live in the south and don’t see that very often.  However, people aren’t always aware of how dangerous it can be.
Yesterday several middle schoolers from my neighborhood attempted to walk on a nearby pond.  [...]

Gloves & Scarves On Set

It’s unseasonably cold here in North Carolina…so cold we decided to make a point of just how cold it is.  Shirley Min and I thought it was appropriate to ditch the anchor gear for winter gear.  However, Bill Reh quickly pointed out a flaw in our attire.  Check it out.
